Iliac vein compression syndrome, also know as May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) occurs when the right iliac artery creates pressure on the left iliac vein. This compression of the left iliac vein causes issues with proper blood flow, resulting in a higher risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and superficial venous insufficiency (including varicose veins).
