Venous reflux can be described as the improper circulation in the legs, and it is the most common cause of varicose veins. What happens is that the valves inside your veins that are responsible for sending blood back up to the heart have become dysfunctional. This causes blood to accumulate in the legs. Venous reflux may be noticed on the surface as bulging or ropey veins, or you may feel it in the form of aches and pains. If this condition is left untreated, it may lead to circulatory issues and/or venous ulcers.
